Recreation Programs


The Recreation Division offers a variety of sports programs throughout the year. Interested persons may place their name on a mailing list and the information pertaining to that program will be mailed as it becomes available. Call 522-7882 for more information.

Minimum/Maximum
All class and program fees are calculated on a minimum/maximum number of participants. If the minimum is not met for any given class, the class will be canceled, and those registered will be transferred to another class if openings still exist. Refunds will be given if class transfers are not possible. Please register at least three days prior to the first class to avoid unnecessary cancellation of programs.

How to Register
Registration for all classes and programs is taken at City Hall, 421 N. 4th St., or at the Sterling Recreation Center, 808 Elm Street. For information concerning Sterling Recreation Center programs or activities call 522-7882.

Registration Policy:

  1. Registrations will be taken on a first come, first serve basis and will continue until classes are filled.
  2. Registrations will not be accepted by instructors.
  3. You may register for a friend. Please bring their address, telephone number, registration fee and registration form if applicable.
  4. Registration in the first session (where applicable) does not guarantee a place in continuing sessions.
  5. Mail-in and phone-in registrations are not accepted for swim lessons.

Two Choices to Register

  1. Walk-In Registrations will be accepted at the Recreation Office immediately until classes are full. Payment in full must accompany registrations.
  2. Mail-In: to register for a class or program by mail, (excluding swim lessons) please include the name of the class, session number, name, address and telephone number, and mail to the Recreation Division, Sterling Recreation Center,
    808 Elm Street, PO Box 4000, Sterling, CO 80751. Enclose a check payable to the “City of Sterling”. Registrations must be received before the starting date of the class. If the class registered for is canceled, the Recreation Division will notify participants by phone or mail.

Most classes and sessions have limited enrollment so register early.

Gift Certificates
Give someone special a very special gift. Gift certificates are available for all activities at the Recreation Center including family and individual year round passes, and special admission passes.

Inclement Weather Cancellations
Classes or programs may at times have to be canceled due to inclement weather conditions. If cancellations do occur, the information will be made available by calling the Recreation Office at 522-9700 or the Recreation Center at 522-7882. When possible, cancellations will be broadcast over K.S.T.C. 1230 AM; K.N.N.G. 104.7 FM or K.P.M.X.105.5.

Closures
During the course of the year certain areas of the building may be reserved for school activities. NJC and RE-1 classes are conducted throughout the year necessitating the closures. Signs are posted at the Recreation Center notifying the public of dates and times. We appreciate your understanding during these closures and feel it is a benefit to the youth of the community.

Suggestions
Your suggestions for future Recreation Programs are welcomed and needed to guide staff in planning and scheduling classes and other activities. If there is a class or program you would like offered, please complete a suggestion form available at the Recreation Office or at the Recreation Center.

Rentals
The Recreation Division has a variety of sports equipment for citizens to use for family picnics, parties etc. Contact the Sterling Recreation Center for details.

Riverview Golf Course

The Riverview Golf Course is owned by the City of Sterling and leased to Golf Management, Inc. It is located 3/4 miles North of Overland Trail Museum on County Rd. 370. The well maintained golf course has 18 holes with a total Par 71. Length: Regular tees – 5,864 yards. Blue tees – 6,524 yards.

Facilities: Driving range, pro shop, cart rental, pull cart rental, club rental, snack bar, and bar.
