The City of Sterling Fire Department protects the City of Sterling and the Sterling Rural Fire Protection District. The City of Sterling is seven square miles in area. The City of Sterling Fire Department provides fire/rescue services to the people of the Sterling Rural Fire Protection District through a contract with the Sterling Rural Fire Protection District. The Sterling Rural Fire Protection District encompasses over 600 square miles. The towns of Merino and Iliff and the Padroni and Atwood communities are within the Rural Fire Protection District.

On November 1st, 2011 the Sterling Fire Department began operating the Logan County Ambulance Service for Logan County. We provide EMS transport services for all of Logan County.
