Colorado State Statute does not allow posting of all registered sex offenders. Please read the following before continuing.

Colorado law requires the City of Sterling, and other law enforcement agencies, to provide the public with access to information concerning sex offenders who are registered as living in their community. Sterling's public sex offender list is available to the public free of charge from the Sterling Police Department Records Section located at 421 N. 4th Street. In addition, those offenders who meet the conditions outlined in Colorado Revised Statute 16-22-112(2) (b), are also posted on our website.

Adult sex offenders may be posted when:

• Convicted of any felony sex offense requiring registration as a sex offender, or
• Convicted of more than one of certain Colorado misdemeanor sex offenses.

Juvenile sex offenders may be posted when:

• Adjudicated for two or more offenses involving unlawful sexual behavior or a crime of violence as defined in C.R.S. 18-1.3-406 or
• Adjudicated for an offense that would have been a felony if committed by an adult and the juvenile has failed to register as required.

To obtain information about specific charges resulting in a registrant’s requirement to register as a sex offender, or to obtain other Colorado criminal history information, log on to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation website at https://www.cbirecordscheck.com

C.R.S 16-22-112(5) states:

"The Colorado sex offender registry includes only those persons who have been required by law to register and who are in compliance with the sex offender registration laws. Persons should not rely solely on the sex offender registry as a safeguard against perpetrators of sexual assault in their communities. The crime for which a person is convicted may not accurately reflect the level of risk."

The Sterling Police Department shall not be responsible for any errors or omissions produced by secondary dissemination of information from the Sex Offender Web site. Extreme care should be exercised when using any information obtained from this website. Colorado law states that sex offender registration information is not provided to the public for the purpose of inflicting retribution or additional punishment on persons convicted of unlawful sexual behavior.
